Are sherpa jackets any good?
Absolutely! Sherpa is not only soft but great at retaining heat. Because of this, it’s a material people gravitate to in fall and early winter.
Made to resemble shearling, which comes from wool, it can be created from a blend of polyester, acrylic and cotton. It’s lightweight but warm, often appearing in the lining of coats and jackets.
One of our favorite sherpa jackets comes from J.Crew. The Teddy Sherpa Jacket ($278) not only has a unique and dressy style but is ultra snuggly. Although light, it keeps the chill off and looks really good while doing it.
Another pick we like is the ReachMe Pullover (starting at $27). It’s sort of like a luxe sweatshirt with a hood. It has a zipper that can be pulled up to keep the neck area warm, plus comes in a variety of different colors.
Are sherpa jackets warmer than puffer jackets?
Sherpa jackets and puffer jackets have different insulation properties. While both are warm, each are best for different purposes.
Puffer jackets are made for cold weather. They’re typically filled with polyester or goose down, and are designed to lock out cold air. (Related: Best Puffer Jackets for Women)
In contrast, sherpa jackets work well in moderately cool or cold weather. They’re cozy but aren’t designed to protect again windchill and damp elements the way that puffer coats are. However, they are still warm, work great for layering and give an additional level of protection when temperatures begin to drop.
